Trygve Allister - aka Trig - Diesen is a Norwegian-Scottish director and screenwriter, known for taking on thriller, crime and human drama projects. He is known for visceral, cinematic storytelling and emotional, yet grounded performances. He is currently best know as the creator of Wisting.
Trygve recently finished directing (2024) all six episodes of the ambitious period drama To Cook a Bear for Anagram and Disney +. Gustaf Skarsgård is the lead in an A-list Nordic cast, and the series based on Mikael Niemi’s best selling novel.
Trygve directed the first three episodes S02 of Irvine Welsh’s Crime, now on ITV and Acorn. Dougray Scott returns in his Emmy-winning performance, along with Joanna Vanderham, Ken Stott and John Sims.
Trygve created Wisting, Scandinavian streamer Viaplay’s biggest hit, and known to Nordic Noir lovers all around the world. Trygve directed all eighteen episodes of the first three seasons, serving as head writer/showrunner as well as director. Sven Nordin and Carrie Anne Moss co-star in the series that has travelled extensively, including successful runs on BBC, Acorn and ARD. The Wisting pilot was nominated for the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Award, a first for a Scandinavian teleplay.
Of Norwegian and Scottish heritage, Diesen graduated magna cum laude from University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, and sold his first script two weeks out of film school. His feature Hold My Heart (2002) was chosen as Norway’s submission to the Oscars. His English-language debut Red (2008) premiered at Sundance, starring Brian Cox in an award-winning performance, with Kim Dickens and Tom Sizemore in other major roles.
Diesen directs TV with the same passion he brings to features and does so alternating between the role of conceptual and episodic director. He has helmed well over 100 episodes, spanning multiple genres, countries and languages.
